Shibui, also known as Shibumi or Shibusa, is a Japanese aesthetic concept which celebrates simple, subtle and unobtrusive beauty.
It is one of the values which we at The House of Artisans strongly believe in. Shibui art, although simple, include subtle details like textures and patterns, blending together simplicity and complexity in a mesmerising fashion, something which we, too, strive for.
The seven elements of shibui are simplicity, implicity, modesty, naturalness, everydayness, imperfection, and silence. ~Dr. Soetsu Yanagi
We believe that art is something intrinsic. It does not necessarily have to be flashy to have an appeal. Items of use that are simple, subtle and uniquely imperfect have far more personality and character than a mass produced item that can be easily replicated.
Shibui, like Wabi-Sabi, echoes that emotion.
We as promoters of art, intend to create art objects, with the help of our artisans, which fulfil the ethos of Shubui and Wabi Sabi, and try to capture the essence of simple, subtle, imperfect yet uniquely beautiful things.
